Laboratory Psychiatry Services

Our practice recognizes that mental health symptoms may sometimes be influenced by underlying medical, neurological, hormonal, metabolic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, nutritional, or genetic factors. As part of a comprehensive and evidence-informed approach to psychiatric care, appropriate laboratory testing and medical collaboration may be recommended when clinically indicated.

We believe that quality psychiatric care often involves looking beyond symptoms alone and considering the whole-person medical picture.

Comprehensive Medical & Psychiatric Screening

Depending on clinical presentation, symptoms, history, medications, and risk factors, laboratory and diagnostic testing may be recommended to help identify or rule out contributing medical conditions that can affect mood, cognition, sleep, anxiety, attention, energy, and emotional regulation.

Common areas evaluated may include:
- Thyroid and hormonal function
- Vitamin and nutritional deficiencies
- Metabolic and inflammatory markers
- Cardiovascular risk factors
- Medication-related monitoring
- Sleep and fatigue-related contributors
- Substance-related considerations
- General medical conditions that may mimic or worsen psychiatric symptoms

Pharmacogenetic & Precision Psychiatry Testing

When appropriate, pharmacogenetic or precision psychiatry testing may be recommended to better understand how an individual may metabolize or respond to certain psychiatric medications.

These tests may provide additional insight regarding:
- Medication metabolism
- Potential side effect sensitivity
- Medication tolerability
- Genetic markers affecting medication processing
- Personalized treatment planning considerations

While no test can definitively predict which medication will work best, this information may help support safer, more individualized treatment decisions when interpreted alongside clinical evaluation and medical history.

3

Collaboration With Medical Specialists

Our practice values interdisciplinary collaboration and may coordinate care with:
- Primary care providers (PCPs)
- Cardiologists
- Neurologists
- Sleep specialists
- Endocrinologists
- Other treating medical professionals

When appropriate and authorized, relevant findings and clinical concerns may be shared with outside providers to support continuity of care, rule out underlying medical contributors, improve patient safety, and assist with comprehensive treatment planning.

This collaborative approach can be especially important when evaluating symptoms that may overlap between psychiatric and medical conditions or when prescribing medications that may impact cardiovascular, neurological, metabolic, or systemic health.

4

Personalized & Evidence-Informed Care

We believe psychiatric treatment should be thoughtful, individualized, and medically informed. Laboratory testing and medical collaboration are used to support a more comprehensive understanding of each patient’s health while helping guide safe, evidence-based clinical care.
